Why You Should You Invest in the Calvary-New Hope Partnership

April 20, 2018

“There are different kinds of gifts. But they are all given to believers by the same Spirit. There are different ways to serve. But they all come from the same Lord. There are different ways the Spirit works. But the same God is working in all these ways and in all people.” — I Corinthians 12:4-6

"Calvary has such a rich tradition of partnering with local organizations to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community. I have fond memories of forming relationships with children at nearby Goldsmith Village in our summer reading program, with immigrants eagerly  learning English in our classrooms with The Learning Source program, and with Burmese Karen children in our outreach Vacation Bible School. I am excited about a new opportunity to build relationships with New Hope Baptist Church members as we support children, families and teachers in partnership with Denver Public Schools. There are so many ways to use our various gifts of hospitality, wisdom, generosity and teaching. Won’t you join me on Sunday, April 29 as we break bread together with New Hope and hear from DPS how we can make a difference in our local schools?"

"Gathering at Calvary with our friends from New Hope Baptist Church on Sunday, April 29, at 12:45 p.m. for lunch and a presentation by Denver Public School staff is not just a critical next step in our shared resolve to contribute to local education.  It's an essential moment in our own lives. At a time when relationships between people of different races and backgrounds are almost unimaginably strained across the country, we can choose to move beyond well-mannered politeness and approach authentic engagement with one another through the vehicle of our project with DPS. Will things change for the school children?  Certainly.  But if we learn about the realities of one another's experiences while helping a school child read more fluently or painting a wall in a school room, things will change for us too -- and for Denver as an urban community.  It's not the whole solution -- but it's a start.  I hope to see you on the 29th!"
