Small Groups We can build community in our corporate worship, but participation in a small group helps build strong bonds, and are safe places for all your faith questions. View our full small group brochure here. Small Group Schedule From September to May Monday Book Group - 3rd Monday of the month - 7:00 p.m. - Zoom. Read and discuss good literature of a variety of kinds. Pub - Two Mondays a month - 5:30 p.m. - Youth Lounge. This is a casual social group open to all that discusses various topics. Quilting Group - Last Monday of the month - 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. - Room 146. Bring your quilting projects to work on together. Tuesday Tuesday Prayer & Study Group and Tuesday Bible Study have combined, but our mission is the same. We meet at 9:00 a.m. in Youth Lounge & Zoom. We pray together and discuss faith based books. Talk to Pastor Alice to get connected. Thursday Lunch Bunch - 4th or 5th Thursday of the Month - Noon - Offsite. An informal time for Calvary folks to try different restaurants and enjoy getting to know each other better. Friday Men’s Group - Usually Last Fridays - 11:00 a.m. - Fellowship Hall. Whether it be an all church event or men’s only event, these monthly gatherings are a setting of learning, fun, and fellowship. Saturday Craft Club - Third Saturday of the month between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m in the Youth Lounge. Bring a craft project and work on it with us! Sunday Facing Racism - 4th Sunday of the month - 2 p.m. - Zoom. We started as a group that has undergone anti-racism training together, and is now open to anyone who wants accompaniment on their anti-racism journey. We discuss books, field trips, and action to live out “open to all, closed to none” by addressing racism on a local, national, and global basis. Reach out to Pastor Alice about being connected. Monthly Young Adult Group - A group of 20-30 somethings who share similar life joys and stresses; currently discussing podcast episodes. We often meet on a Thursday or Friday night. Reach out to Pastor Alice to get on the email list. Sunday Church School Classes Church school classes are a great place to build community weekly and study faith based topics. Most church school classes meet on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m.. Forties & Fifties Group - 9 a.m. on Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25, Nov. 1 The 40s and 50s are a time of big change as we shift from the first half to the second half of life. We’ll explore what really matters in the second half of life and how our faith can support this transition. Talk to Pastor Ian to get connected. Pop-Up Classes - 2nd Sunday of the month, Chapel Topics will vary each month covering Biblical teaching, self care, community resources, and other topics. These provide a time of connection and learning with a minimum level of commitment, during a time when child care and other resources are available. Caritas -room 146 This class has strong bonds between classmates, openness and honesty, great teachers, and explores justice topics & how we treat our neighbors. Studying Genesis in the fall; Revelation in the spring (context, imagery, genre). South Sudanese Fellowship- room 154 This class is for Calvary’s congregants from South Sudan. Discussion is based on study of the Bible and fact finding. We study selected Bible books/chapters from the New Testaments. Koinonia - room 119 Teachers are trained educators. There is freedom to speak and agree or disagree, and teachers raise questions instead of supplying answers. It’s a caring atmosphere, a place to grow and strengthen your faith, diverse perspectives, and fun social events. Studying this year: Falling Upward by Richard Rohr, Between the Dreaming and the Coming True by Robert Benson, Encounters with Jesus by Timothy Keller. Ribbons - room 134 Ribbons is made up of people who enjoy studying various contemporary books and topics that help us grow in the Christian faith as well as deepening our personal relationships in our group. We meet first Sunday after church with brown bag lunches in Ribbons Classroom for discussion around a video. Some members join us via Zoom for this time together. Voyagers - room 138 This class was originally named ETC for Every Thought Considered, and considers all perspectives. They often use book or video lectures and welcomes all people and personalities. This year they are studying the Bible after the Gospels. Please know many of these classes take a break in the summer. If you have any questions you can contact Pastor Alice.
