Welcome Our New Interim Congregational Chaplain!

August 25, 2025 Rev. Alice Horner Nelson

Hello, Calvary! We are excited to announce the creation of a new role of interim Congregational Chaplain. This role will support Pastors Anne and Alice through the end of 2025, during which time Pastor Anne will be spending much of her time in trial preparation and attendance, followed by the Advent season. This position’s entire focus will be on serving Calvary’s congregational and pastoral care needs, including visits (hospital, rehabilitation, long term care, hospice, home, etc.), coordination of the VIP program, coordination of the Volunteer Outreach team, and other pastoral care needs as they may arise. The role is designed for approximately 15 hours per week, but will not have a set schedule.  Many of these types of needs arise unexpectedly, but must be addressed quickly.  This is very difficult for our regular pastors when they are already heavily scheduled with other responsibilities. And the really exciting part of this announcement is that our very own Rev. Brenda J. R. Goodman has accepted our offer to fill this position!  Brenda is a lifelong Calvaryite so she knows us pretty well, unlike many potential interim staff members. She has a Master of Divinity, with distinction, from Iliff  School of Theology, and certificates in pastoral care, spiritual direction, and as a death doula. She was ordained in 2014 by Calvary. Brenda also has a B.A.in psychology with a minor in philosophy. Brenda has been a part-time Chaplain at Sky Ridge Medical Center since 2014, a position she will retain while serving as Calvary’s Interim Congregational Chaplain. We are grateful to have someone with so much professional experience and education—as well Calvary-connection—serving in this important role.

Please join us in welcoming Brenda to our Calvary staff as of September 1! As she gets settled into the role, Brenda will be communicating with the congregation about how best to communicate congregational care needs with her.
