Our Theme for Gathering Sunday up to Stewardship is Rooted. We are basing this theme on Colossians 2:6-7 which reads - “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” We will be encouraging folks to think about what they are rooting in, what are their foundations of faith.
Listed below are the ROOTED Spiritual Practice Opportunities for Fall 2019.
Beginning Tues. Sept. 10 - 6:30 p.m. - Board Room - ROOTED in Scripture
*Scripture for Discussion on Sept. 10: Genesis 18:1-15; 21:1-7
Join us in person or via ZOOM on Tuesday evenings to read and discuss the scripture for the upcoming Sunday. Be a part of the “behind-the-scenes” sermon preparation process with the pastors by sharing your thoughts, questions, and insights as we seek together to understand scripture and what it means for our lives. Join in the conversation one week or all weeks – no sign-up necessary. Each week in the e-news, we will include the upcoming scripture we will be discussing as well as instructions on how to join us via ZOOM if you want to be part of the conversation remotely. *The NL is a four-year cycle of readings that follow the sweep of the Biblical story, from Creation through the early Christian church.
Dates: Tuesdays, Sept. 10, 17, 24 and Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29.

Beginning Mon. Sept. 9 - 6:00 p.m. - Youth Lounge - ROOTED: Writing as a Spiritual Practice
Do you find yourself struggling to engage with Scripture in a typical Bible study fashion? Do you find the normal structure of prayer to be difficult for you? This class will explore how writing can be a helpful tool in engaging our faith. You don't have to consider yourself a writer to participate. There are multiple benefits to making writing a spiritual practice. Exploring scripture with pen and paper can reveal more truths about God's story than if you just read it by itself. Writing helps us become more attentive, and it often unearths truths about ourselves that we didn't know. You do not have to attend every class although it is recommended. You can join this class at any time.
Dates: Mondays, September 9–November 18
Time & Place: 6–6:45 p.m., Youth Lounge
Sat. Sept. 21 & Sun. Oct. 20 - ROOTED in Nature and Community
For those who find their connection to the Divine through hikes or meals shared in community we have two meaningful opportunities for you as we explore the texts and topics for Rooted. Pastors Anne and Morgan will lead a hike and a community meal during our ROOTED series.
Hike: Saturday, October 12, 9:30 a.m. departure from Calvary
Community Meal: October 20 at 11:45 (following Worship) in the Fellowship Hall
