Calvary Celebrates with First Baptist Church on the Installation of Senior Pastor Rev. Kurt Kaufman September 2, 2026 Ru-Lee Weller Passman Dear First Baptist Church of Denver and Senior Pastor Rev. Kurt Kaufman, On behalf of your siblings in the Spirit here at Calvary Baptist Church of Denver, we celebrate with you on this joyous day of installing Rev. Kurt Kaufman as your Senior Pastor. First and Calvary share history and heritage in Denver dating back to the late 1800s, common values as inclusive churches in our city today, and Baptist partnership through the Evergreen Association of ABC- USA. Most importantly, we share a passion for community and living out loud the radical love that Jesus shared through his life and ministry. As our “Mother Church,” we have always looked up to you and found strength in your unique and meaningful ministry in our city, particularly for how you are a beacon of hope for the marginalized and a refuge of sacred space in Capitol Hill. We know this will only continue and grow under the leadership of Rev. Kurt. We rejoice that his gifts will be shepherding First Baptist, and we give thanks for the gifts of all your pastoral leaders and lay leaders that have guided you through these interim years. Your collective ministry matters and makes a difference. And Rev. Kurt—thank you for saying YES! to this beautiful, difficult, important calling. Calvary is always here for First, and I am always here for you as a colleague in ministry. As someone we both know well — the Rev. Dr. Brian Henderson, who was my predecessor as Senior Pastor at Calvary and your predecessor at First — always says: “there is more we can do together than any one of us can do on our own.” Indeed. May this new beginning in ministry bless you, bless First Baptist, and bless our city, Rev. Anne J. Scalfaro, Senior Pastor
