Mon. Sept. 14 –Small Group via ZOOM facilitated by Diana McGahan on HOLY ENVY: Finding God in the Faith of Others by Barbara Brown Taylor. Are you interested in exploring how your Christian faith in God relates to the faith of other major religions of the world? Diana McGahan will facilitate a small group (via Zoom) to read and discuss this fascinating and thought-provoking book. We will begin Monday evening, September 14, meeting every 2 weeks for about 6 sessions. This group is “open to all, closed to none” but limited to 10-12 participants. The only cost to participants is the purchase of the book, available on Amazon or other booksellers and your local library. If the cost of the book is prohibitive for you joining, you may contact Pastor Anne for assistance. Please contact Diana McGahan (firstname.lastname@example.org) to sign up or with your questions. From the book jacket of Holy Envy: “…Barbara Brown Taylor tackles the questions, worries, and concerns that arise when we encounter “difference” and “others.” This is not a primer on religions; instead, [Taylor] explores what is opened and what is revealed when we accept the invitation to investigate all the wonder before us. Here we learn not only that God’s preferred language is driven by curiosity and specializes in questions, but we also discover the spiritual riches God can teach us from the faith of others.”
Tues. Sept. 15 – Tuesday Prayer & Study Group Resumes via Zoom – 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to join this weekly group facilitated by Pastor Anne as we share prayer concerns, pray together, and read and discuss Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson. To join the group, please contact Judy Griswold (info in church directory). Individuals purchase the book on their own; if the cost is prohibitive, please contact Pastor Anne for assistance.
Mon. Sept. 21 –Third Monday Book Group -Purpose of the series: exploration of contemporary literature and issues of 21st century society through the eyes of faith. This will be a "novel" approach to the ethics, values and theology of our culture which we hope will stimulate the group to question and interact around the themes that emerge. Check out their monthly book selections by clicking here.
The group will meet monthly, reading a book each time in preparation for the discussion to follow. The leaders will primarily be facilitators of the discussion, not experts on the book. The interaction will be informal and hopefully provocative. Each meeting will be one and one-half hours. Time: Third Monday of each month, 7:00 – 8:30 P.M. We will meet by Zoom unless in person is possible. Leadership is shared by members of the group by volunteering with another, all of whom love to read books. Register to Attend: Everyone is welcome, and you may come to one or all. Please let us know of your interest by contacting Gordon Kieft or Judy Griswold.
Men's Group - Through our fellowship and through our works, the Calvary Men’s Group endeavors to be a positive outlet for men of varied backgrounds and skill sets to offer their experience and their shared American Baptist heritage to benefit each other and create value in our community. We focus our efforts in three major areas: fellowship, education, missions. Past activities included a CornHole tournament, a DU Hockey outing, and Top Golf. We encourage men of all ages to join us and plan some events at alternate times to allow working men to participate. Most meetings will be via Zoom until further notice. To be put on the email list, contact David Peterson (info in church directory).
